The
foundation of Industrial Refrigeration (IR) was led in
1958 when Mr.Ramprasad Ruia at the the age of 26, pioneered
Car Air Conditioning in India. Mr. Ruia decided to call
his company Gorakhram Haribux, after his ancestors, Gorakhram
& Haribux.
Car
Air conditioning was followed by Room Air Conditioning&
Central Air Condition. Over the Years, IR's portfolio
grew by the addition of several refrigeration products,
such as Refrigerant gases, Solenoid Valves, Expansion
Valves, Thermostats, Controls, Refrigeration Quality Copper
Tubes,etc. |
|
In the
Mid '60s, Gorakhram Haribux (GH) were appointed exclusive Distributors
for Refrigerant Gases by 'Daikin Kogyo' Japan's No. manufacturer
of Refrigerant Gases.M/s. GH set a pioneered trend in this field
by importing One Ton Containers of Refrigerant Gases. From these
Container gases were transferred to smaller containers of capacity
between 10 and 70 Kgs.
These Refrigerants were sold to Establishments, where cooling
was required for some process or the other. Over the years,
GH had customers from every field, from Steel plants to Blade
manufacturers and from Airports to hospital and Cinema Halls.
In 1974,
IR established a factory of 10,000 sq. ft. at Marol, Andheri,
Mumbai for assembling Car Air conditioners, Room Air Conditioners,
Cooling Coils, Copper fittings and Tube Kits for the Air Conditioning
and Refrigeration industry.
It was really a difficult period up to the late 1990s, because,
Refrigeration and Air Conditioning was considered by the Government
as a Luxury Industry. This Industry attracted taxation in the
form of import duties and Excise Duty even totaling up to 200%
for some products. IR did not believe in short term gains due
to evasion of taxes and it was an uphill task to survive against
competition.
However, IR maintained a good market standing through careful
sourcing of raw materials, careful choice of product mix and
tremendous cost control. In the early 1990s, IR decided to make
its mark in Food Refrigeration and over the years gained sufficient
experience in Ice Making Machines, Freezing plants, Chillers
and Cold Stores. IR entered into several tie-ups with Global
Companies, so as to introduce the latest technologies in India.
IR entered
into a tie-up for Freezing equipment with M/s. Jackstone (formerly
a part of APV). IR was also appointed exclusive agent for M/s.
FRIGOFRANCE Flake Ice Machines, mainly used in the Seafood Industry.
IR executed several Cold Storages projects, using indigenous
and imported components depending on customers' requirements.
Cold
Storages were executed for wide range of temperatures from +
5°C to - 40°C and for applications ranging from Storage
of Films to Storage of Seafood. In the Millennium year 2000,
IR undertook the challenging assignment of setting up a Freezing
system on Board a 55 Ft. Fishing Wooden Trawler.
The Trawler
is undergoing trials off the West Coast of India. IR is now
scouting for an order to set up an Ice skating rink. IR also
hopes to execute a snow room for a large recreational complex
in Central Mumbai. Having gained the goodwill and trust of Indian
companies, IR is eager to expand its operation to neighboring
countries. |
